Purpose

This case study was developed for research and academic purposes to demonstrate and evaluate the ITLingoCloud platform, with particular emphasis on its ITLingo-Chatbot and ITOI components.

Case Study Summary

The Smart Library Management System (SLMS) is a digital platform designed to automate the main operations of an academic library. It replaces manual and paper-based procedures with an integrated digital workflow for library staff and patrons.

The system supports three principal user roles. Librarians manage the catalogue, memberships, loans, returns, fines and operational reports. Library members search the catalogue, borrow and return books, and consult their borrowing history. System administrators manage users, system settings, access control and security.

The main features include member registration and validation, book checkout and return with availability verification, fine calculation, and real-time operational reporting. Overdue fines are calculated at 50 cents per day for each book and are capped at the book's replacement value. The specification also defines explicit lifecycles and permitted state transitions for books, members, borrowings and fines.

The SLMS enforces relevant business rules, including a standard loan period of 14 days, possible extensions for faculty members, and borrowing limits based on membership type. It is designed to support up to 100 concurrent users, protect sensitive information through encryption, maintain 99% availability during library operating hours, and record relevant transactions and system events for auditing purposes.
